Clean up is important and lost art by many companies today. Sun State Trees does its utmost to clean each and every job because we waste nothing. The trees or branches trimmed or removed at you home are recycled as Mulch or Compost.
FREE MULCH
Did you know we have Free Mulch?
The environmental mulch we have at our facility is wood from land clearing, storm debris, and rotted tree roots called "root balls". The dirty color is produced from the soil staining the wood chips during the grinding process. We set it aside and occasionally move the piles in order to "fluff" the mulch and accelerate the composting. When we screen the mulch we get fine potting soil and mulch chips that can be ground again for finer mulch. We have made it a totally recyclable process.

FORESTRY NEWS
Tennessee Master Arborist brings back an American Tree.
Science Daily (Sep. 23, 2009) —
The American chestnut was a dominant species in eastern U.S.'s forests before a blight wiped it out in the early 1900s. Today it's being returned to the landscape thanks in part to work by a University of Tennessee Forestry alumna and the UT Tree Improvement Program (UT TIP).
Once used extensively for building, for tanning leather, as an important source of food for humans and wildlife, and even as nutritious fodder for hogs, the American chestnut seemed destined to be a memory—a line in a Christmas song. In a few years, the public should be able to once again enjoy the benefits of the forest giant. UT alumna Stacy Clark, lead researcher with the U.S. Forest Service restoration project, believes the chestnut's revival will become one of the great stories of American conservation. Her work in cooperation with The American Chestnut Foundation (TACF) and the UT TIP has resulted in test plantings of blight-resistant trees in three southern National Forests. Planted over the winter, the young trees are 94 percent pure American chestnuts. But the remaining 6 percent has blight resistance derived from the Chinese chestnut tree. Simply planting a Chinese chestnut wouldn't solve the problem, Clark said. "The American chestnut grows straight and tall, is highly valuable, and has highly flavored edible nuts," she said. "All that differs from the Chinese. We want the trees to look and act like an American chestnut. But they have to have the resistance genes from Chinese chestnut. That's the only way they're going to survive." The young trees appear healthy and are growing well, but results from tree experiments come slowly, even for a fast-growth tree like the chestnut.
Tree Companies
using Cranes to remove trees after storms or routine services.
Greg Smith
Sometimes lightning
does strike twice and a rare incident took place today that proves it.
One tree company in Lexington S.C. was removing a tree that had crashed
into a home during severe weather and during the removal a miscalculation
flipped the crane into the home. Another tree company in Orlando Fl.
suffered the same fate during a routine removal of a large oak tree
that toppled the crane and laid it's boom across the roof of the home.
I'm writing this article in defense for these companies. Not because
we are a tree company that uses cranes to remove trees but to remind
people a few obvious facts. Cranes are used to do the work that is encumbered
or can be fatal by conventional methods. I have worked around cranes
for the last 25 years and lifted everything from 200-200,000 pounds.
Working around Cranes is dangerous and unexpected things can happen.
When something does go wrong you have no control of the outcome because
the weight is too heavy. But cranes are the safest way to lift heavy
objects from point A to point B. Almost every crane company will deny
you rental if it's for removing trees. The reason for this is that using
cranes for removing trees is unpredictable and they won't risk the damage.
A strap is wrapped around a limb or section of tree, the crane pulls
it's cable tight, the climber makes his cut and the crane operator has
an unknown weight thrust upon him. Most Crane operators are trained
to be lone wolf operators, they can test the weight 2 inches from the
ground and calculate angle to weight for the crane they operate all
on their own. Crane operators for a tree company rely on the climber
and the climber relies on the operator. If they are not in sync a serious
accident can happen very quickly. Sun State Trees & Property Maintenance
Inc. is sympathetic for the tree companies that lose a crane because
its a major loss for their company. But these incidents should in no
way keep tree companies or home owners from using cranes to remove trees.
Cranes will continue to be used in the tree industry because it's safer
removing large trees in confined areas. Always make sure that the company
you use is licensed and insured.
